The two nesting island are now in place on the lake at the Silksworth Sports Complex having secured funding from the Council. With attacks on nesting birds continuing throughout the summer it is hoped the new islands will provide a sanctuary during the nesting season.

The campaign to protect the birdlife was organised by residents of Farringdon and the Lakeside Village with the help of the Sunderland Freshwater Angling Club and a petition was signed by many residents across St.Chad’s ward.
