Issues
Road Resurfacing in Herrington
We are continuously campaigning for better road surfaces throughout the ward and have had some success in recent years such as this stretch of Clinton Place which was badly in need of repair. The Council spends less than needed on road and pavement repairs so we have to fight hard for any action. Steep Hill is in a poor condition and has been put in the programme of work for the financial year 2011-2012 but several roads such as Warwick Drive and Crow Lane need attention. The junction of Warwick Drive and Silksworth Road is set to be re-surfaced once the Northumbrian Water works are complete.
Action needed at Lakeside junction
We have taken up the issue of the busy junction between North Moor Lane and Silksworth Road where there has been a large number of accidents. It is difficult for vehicles to turn right due to the speed of traffic and buses have difficulty with the tight junction. Many residents have contacted us to complain about the junction which gets busy at rush hour. The Council has acknowledged that there is an issue but has been unable to come up with the funds needed to alleviate the problems. We intend to find the accident statistics which will help us campaign and make it more likely to secure improvements.
Farringdon Bus Stop
Councillor Alan Wright has been dealing with the bus stop on Ashdown Road in Farringdon which needed to be replaced to allow buses to enter properly. The original bus stop was too short for buses to enter fully which caused congestion at the junction of Ashdown Road and Antwerp Road. Following investigations the Council agreed to a new build-out which should allow buses to park and reduce congestion at this busy junction. There is also more scope for parking bays both for residents and users of the local shops on Ashdown Road.
Crow Lane Parking
We are working on a proposal to reduce problems associated with parking at the junction of Crow Lane and the Durham Road. Vehicles often park near the junction which makes it difficult to enter and exit from Durham Road. Parking is needed both for residents and for visitors to the nursery but we need to move the vehicles off the junction. The Council has accepted the need for lengthening the yellow lines to bring them back to the end of the church which should avoid a concentration of vehicles at the junction. Residents have been consulted and it is hoped the work can be completed soon.
